KK Pathak orders District Magistrates to address school shortcomings

  • KK Pathak, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, has been taking action to address the shortcomings found in school inspections in Bihar.
  • He has ordered all District Magistrates to address the shortcomings of schools in their respective areas by September 1.
  • In a letter to the DMs, Pathak highlighted four main points that require personal intervention and urged them to meet with district education officers to review efforts and begin addressing the issues.

The problem of increased student attendance

  • Due to the increase in student attendance, many classes are being conducted in the verandah or in two shifts.
  • The Education Department has decided to construct prefabricated structures in secondary, middle, and primary schools to address this issue.

Reinstatement of guest teachers

  • Due to the shortage of teachers, principals have been authorized to hire guest teachers until the appointment of permanent teachers.
  • Instructions have been given to district education officers to facilitate the hiring of guest teachers from fixed agencies through outsourcing.

Responsibility of cleaning to be given to private vendors

  • Cleaning of school rooms, furniture, labs, and libraries is not regular, especially the toilets.
  • The department has decided to outsource the housekeeping of schools to private vendors starting from September 1, 2023.

Computer labs to be set up in 10,000 schools

  • A plan is in place to establish computer labs in approximately 10,000 schools.
  • In the first phase, computers will be installed in 4,707 schools, with security personnel deployed to ensure their maintenance and security.
