Forgery in Cataract Operation Unveiled: Panic Ensues

Following the discovery of forgery in a cataract operation, panic has spread from the village to the city. The Health Department’s investigation has revealed one disturbance after another, including the use of three different signatures by a forged doctor.

Civil surgeon has submitted a report to the headquarters after conducting an investigation. Additionally, senior ophthalmologist Dr. Amarendra Jha has refused to work at the hospital under investigation.

In response to the increasing cases, Iris World Hospital has temporarily halted cataract and eye operations until September 4.

Doctor’s Phone Switched Off Raises Concerns

A lock was found hanging at the Sunaina Eye Memorial Hospital near Majhauli in Bochahan, where the mobile phone of a doctor listed on the hospital’s panel is switched off.

Due to the unavailability of a doctor during the investigation, suspicions arose that the operation may have been conducted without a doctor, with only an OT assistant present.

Since 2020, the hospital has been offering free cataract surgeries and has claimed to have successfully operated on approximately 1200 patients, collecting around Rs 24 lakh from the District Prevention of Blindness.

When questioned about the switched-off mobile phone, the hospital’s director, Rajesh Chandra, failed to provide an answer. However, he assured that all work is conducted in accordance with the rules and all relevant documents have been submitted to the Prevention of Blindness Committee.

Complaints of Fraudulent Camp and Operation

Nandkishore Rai, a resident of Gaighat Jaganiya, filed a complaint with the SSP, alleging that Iris World Eye Hospital organized a camp in his village, promising free eye operations. However, despite having an Ayushman card, he was charged ten thousand rupees.

Hospital director Brajmohan Kumar explained that Nandkishore Rai was treated under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. During his visit to the OPD, some staff members asked for two rupees, which led to his complaint. After an investigation by the health department, the matter was resolved and a mutual agreement was reached.

Senior Ophthalmologist Refuses to Operate

Dr. Amrendra Jha, a senior ophthalmologist affiliated with Iris World Eye Hospital, has refused to perform eye surgeries there. After contacting two patients on Monday, the hospital operator was informed that Dr. Jha would not work at the hospital until the forgery allegations were cleared. Dr. Jha has requested the civil surgeon to verify the bills made in his name before any payment is made.

Investigation Ongoing Following Complaint

Civil surgeon Dr. UC Sharma announced that a two-member team, led by Director General Niharika Sharan, has been formed by the state headquarters to investigate the matter. The team includes additional directors Dr. Ratna Sharan and Dr. Ashok Kumar.
