Bihar School Examination Board Makes 75% Attendance Compulsory in Schools

The Bihar School Examination Board has made it mandatory for students in government recognized secondary and higher secondary schools to have a minimum of 75% attendance. Previously, the Examination Committee had allowed condonation of short attendance on medical grounds for candidates with less than 60% attendance. However, this order has now been cancelled. Under the new order, students studying in classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th must have at least 75% attendance to be eligible to appear in the annual examinations.

Only Students with 75% Attendance Allowed in Class 9th and 11th Exams

According to the examination committee, only students with a minimum of 75% attendance will be allowed to sit for the annual examinations of class 9th and 11th. Previously, there were provisions for relaxation in cases with less than 75% attendance and even below 60% attendance. However, these relaxations have now been cancelled, and no relaxation will be given for attendance below 75% in any case or circumstances.

Low Attendance in Schools on Rakshabandhan

On the day of Rakshabandhan, schools from primary to higher secondary level remained open, but the number of students attending was considerably less. The attendance of teachers was 100%, but the Mid Day Meal report showed low attendance of children in most primary and middle schools. The report has been submitted to the District Education Office, which revealed that the number of children attending school was significantly lower compared to the number of children enrolled in elementary level schools.

Principal Remarks on Rakshabandhan Attendance

Poonam Kumari, Principal of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, mentioned that although the number of girl students was lower than usual on Rakshabandhan, all the teachers were present at the scheduled time.
