Disappointing Monsoon in Bihar

  • From June to August, the state should have received 775.7 mm of rainfall, but only 569.6 mm was recorded.

  • Sitamarhi also received 50% less rainfall than normal, with 437.9 mm recorded instead of the expected 871.7 mm.
  • If there is no significant rainfall in September, it will have a negative impact on Kharif and Rabi crops, as well as the groundwater condition.

Impact on Crops and Groundwater

  • The lack of rainfall will affect the irrigation of crops, as the ponds that usually get filled during the monsoon season remain empty.
  • Both Kharif and Rabi crops will be affected if there is no substantial rainfall in September.
  • The overall groundwater condition will also be impacted due to the poor monsoon season.
