Royal Enfield to Launch Electric Motorcycles in India by 2025
Royal Enfield, a renowned two-wheeler manufacturer and a part of Eicher Motors Limited, has announced its entry into the Indian electric motorcycle market by 2025. Siddhartha Lal, CEO of Royal Enfield, confirmed that the company will unveil its first electric bike in 2025. While other players in the market have attempted to introduce electric vehicles, none have been successful thus far. Royal Enfield is taking its time to develop a strong product in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, and is currently testing various prototypes while continuing to invest in internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes.
New Chief Development Officer Appointed to Boost EV Business
In order to enhance its EV business, Siddhartha Lal has appointed Mario Alvisi as the Chief Development Officer. This move reaffirms the company’s commitment to its e-bike plan. Royal Enfield is also in the process of applying for the incentive scheme, which involves an investment of INR 2,000 crore. With three manufacturing units serving 61 countries, Royal Enfield has become a trusted company in the industry. The company’s sales have grown from 50,000 units to 9 lakh units, and it currently holds a 93% market share in the mid-weight segment (250cc-750cc) and a 30% market share in the 125cc and above bike segments.
