Hindu Month of Bhadrapada: Fasts and Festivals

In Hindu society, the month of Bhadrapada is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shri Krishna and Shri Ganesha. This month has started from the beginning and will continue till 29th September. It is marked by a dozen small and big fasts and festivals.

One of the upcoming festivals is the Bahula Ganesh Chauth fast, which will be celebrated on Sunday. The moon is predicted to rise at 8:56 pm on that day.

Arghya Offering and Bhado Duration

Acharya Amarendra Kumar Mishra, also known as Saheb Pandit, suggests that the Arghya (offering) to the Moon should be done anytime between moonrise and the end of the date. He explains that the Chaturthi Tithi will last until 11:08 pm on Sunday. The Bhado month began on 1st September and will continue till the full moon day of Bhado Snan Daan on 29th September.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Other Festivals

The month of Bhadrapada is significant for various fasts and festivals like Shri Krishna Janma Mahotsav, Vishwakarma Puja, Teej, and Anant Chaturdashi fast. There is some confusion regarding the date of Shri Krishna’s birth anniversary. Householders will celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami on 6th September, considering his birth at midnight. However, Vaishnavs who observe the date according to sunrise will celebrate Janmashtami on September 7.

Mahant Shri Rajaram Sharan Maharaj of Shri Sitaram Vivah Mahotsav Ashram mentioned that Shri Krishna Birth Mahotsav will be celebrated on the seventh day (Thursday) with great enthusiasm.
