Prashant Kishor, who embarked on the Jan Suraj Yatra, criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for deviating from the development and corruption agenda on which he came into power.

Kishor accused Kumar of only being focused on retaining his position as Chief Minister, using different symbols such as a lantern and a lotus to appeal to voters. He claimed that these tactics reminded him of the previous Lalu Yadav regime.

During an interaction with the media at RDS College campus, Kishor shared his 11-month padyatra experience. He emphasized that the purpose of the Jan Suraj Padayatra was to raise awareness among the public about their issues and encourage them to vote accordingly.

Kishor discovered during his village-to-village journey that migration was a major issue, with many youths from poor and middle-class families leaving their homes for up to ten months a year. He criticized the government for merely providing unemployment allowances and student credit cards as a show, instead of addressing the root causes of migration.

Issues Identified by Kishor

  • The government’s inadequate response to public disasters
  • The public’s frustration with bureaucracy and bribery
  • Rampant corruption in government schemes
  • The public’s concerns about electricity bills and the deteriorating state of the department
  • Increase in corruption and crime since Nitish Kumar formed the Grand Alliance
  • Ineffectiveness of unemployment allowances and student credit cards in curbing migration
  • Degradation of the education system, with schools focusing on distributing meals and colleges on distributing degrees rather than imparting true education
