Lord Shri Krishna’s Birth Anniversary Preparations

Preparations for the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna have been completed. Cradles and swings have been decorated for the Lord at many places, and statues have been installed. According to tradition, the story of swinging Lord Krishna in the cradle after his birth is prevalent, hence the cradle-like decoration.

This is how special Prasad is prepared

Coriander Panjiri is made in homes on Shri Krishna Janmashtami, which is a special prasad for this occasion. The elderly women of the house start preparing for it several days in advance. The process includes cleaning, washing, drying, roasting, and grinding the coriander to make the Panjiri.

Kanha devotees Kalavati Devi, Parvati Devi, and Premshila Devi explained that coriander must be picked and washed with cleanliness, dried properly, roasted on the home stove, and finally ground into a powder. The powder is then mixed with sugar to prepare the prasad, which is offered to God. Due to the labor-intensive nature of this work, help is taken from new daughters-in-law or other family members.

Coriander protects from weather-borne diseases

Doctor Premnath Tiwari mentioned the nutritional benefits of Panjiri. According to tradition, coriander is considered Lord Vishnu’s favorite. Additionally, Bhadrapada marks the end of the rainy season, and the subsequent evaporation process increases humidity, which has adverse effects on the skin. Eating roasted coriander or its powder helps prevent these effects. The preparation of coriander prasad combines scientific and religious beliefs.

Acharya Rajeev Kumar Mishra explained that coriander is dear to Lord Vishnu and is used as a priority in the worship of Lord Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, and all their forms.

The price of cucumber increased as soon as Janmashtami came

In the market of fruits, flowers, and worship materials, the price of cucumber saw the highest inflation due to Krishna Janmashtami. Cucumber holds significance in the pavilion, swing, or pandal made during the birth celebration. According to legend, the cucumber kept in the pavilion bursts automatically at midnight when people are busy singing hymns. This tradition leads to increased demand and subsequently higher prices. The prices of Lord’s makeup items and fruits like pear, banana, and apple also rose due to increased demand.
