Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur:

The school is surrounded by a river, which poses a challenge for students to access education. To reach the school, students have the option to cross the river by boat or take a longer route through dusty roads. Limited resources make it difficult for students like Jeet to attend school consistently. This is a common problem in North Bihar, where barriers to education exist in many districts.

Village in river belt, boat to go to school

In Chatra village, located in the Goramansingh Panchayat of Gaudabauram block in Darbhanga, students have to cross the Kamla Balan river by boat to reach their school. The village remains surrounded by river water for five months each year. Villagers have been demanding a bridge on Chatra Ghat for years, but their pleas have gone unnoticed by elected representatives. Around 50 children from Chatra East Toll brave the river every day to go to school.

More than 100 children come to school by boat in Pusa

In Pusa, Samastipur, over 100 students rely on boats to cross the Budhi Gandak river from Simri Ghat in Kalyanpur block. Although the operation of boats was initially banned by the Pusa University administration, it was resumed due to pressure from the local community. The boats often exceed their capacity, compromising the safety of the students.

Teachers risk their lives every day to cross the river.

In Dharanipatti Western Panchayat of Mohanpur block, Samastipur, 11 teachers from three schools cross the Ganga river by boat to reach their school in Ganga Par Diare. This has been a daily routine for the past 13 years. The expenses are manageable, but the daily boat ride poses a risk to their lives. Teachers in the Diaravarti area of Bettiah face similar challenges.
