Toyota’s New Lifestyle Compact Off-Roader
It has been widely suggested that Toyota is developing a brand new lifestyle compact off-roader to compete with the Suzuki Jimny. Reports from Japanese media suggest that it could be sold in hybrid and electric powertrain options. The ‘Land Cruiser Mini’ will be introduced sometime next year and will be a production version of the compact cruiser EV concept that was showcased a few years ago.
Light Cruiser or Yaris Cruiser
The vehicle could also be referred to as the Light Cruiser or Yaris Cruiser. Although the concept was electric, the production-spec SUV will also be available with a combustion engine and it is believed that a hybrid/petrol mix could be a popular choice. A teaser associated with the launch of the all-new Prado a few weeks ago revealed the silhouette of the Mini LC.
Compact Cruiser Concept
The compact cruiser imitates the concept as it features high pillars and an almost flat roof. The report further suggests that the Land Cruiser Mini will be the same size as the Corolla Cross and will be longer than the five-door Suzuki Jimny. In order to compete strongly against the Jimny, it will sit on a body-on-frame chassis, contrary to the expected TNGA-C architecture.

The overall length is estimated to be 4,350 mm, width 1,860 mm, and height 1,880 mm. It could be as long as the latest Prado but will be significantly smaller in size. As you would expect, the exterior will be heavily influenced by the compact cruiser concept. However, round LED headlamps with a spare wheel on the tailgate could be used to give an authentic look.
