Mahindra Set to Launch New 5-Door Thar SUV in India
Mahindra is gearing up to launch its new 5-door Thar SUV in India, currently undergoing continuous testing. The upcoming 5-door Thar will feature a sturdy hard-top variant. With Indian consumers eagerly awaiting its launch, the SUV is expected to compete against Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door. Spy images have revealed a large infotainment display in the new Thar 5-door, and it is being developed on a long wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats.
Cheaper Variant of 5-Door Thar Underway
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door was recently spotted during testing, and it is speculated that the company will also provide a rear-wheel-drive option. This variant could possibly be the cheapest model of the Thar 5-door series. Reports suggest that the new Thar 5-door is being built on the strong platform of Scorpion N. The company plans to modify it in accordance with the length of the upcoming off-roader. The new SUV is also expected to have a similar pentalink suspension at the rear, however, it will be smaller in size compared to the Scorpion N.
New Thar to Offer Two Engine Options
The new 5-door Thar will be presented with two engine options by Mahindra, the first being a 2.0-liter turbo petrol and the second a turbo diesel engine. These are the same engines offered in the current model, though the engines in the 5-door Thar might be more powerful. The vehicle will come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Upcoming Competition in India
