Electric Highway: Preparations are underway to create an electric highway for buses to run on electricity, following the trend of trains running on electricity. Such highways already exist in Germany and Sweden, but now they are being built in India. For this, power lines will be laid on the largest highways in Delhi and Mumbai, and electric buses will be operated on them.
What is an Electric Highway?
Let me tell you that a new type of highway is built to operate electric buses, in which the bus is continuously supplied with electricity through ground or overhead wires so that it never needs charging. These buses have a normal speed of 100 km/h. For example, you may have seen power lines above trains. These wires are connected to the train’s pantograph and provide continuous electricity to the train. That is why trains do not require any charging.
Where are the Electronic Highways?
I can tell you that there are such highways where power lines have been installed for power supply and the buses running on them do not require charging. One such highway is in Berlin, Germany, which is 109 kilometers long. But if such a highway is built on the Delhi-Mumbai highway, it will become the world’s largest electric highway.
Buses will operate like trains and metros
While trains and metros are already being used in India and major cities, now buses will also be used for this purpose. Companies like Tata and Siemens are showing interest in this project.
