UP Government Offers Free Bus Travel for Women Over 60
The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has given a big gift to women over the age of 60. Now, they will not have to pay for their bus tickets on UP Roadways buses. They will be allowed to travel for free. Previously, only on Raksha Bandhan were all women allowed to travel for free on the buses. This decision by the Yogi government is being viewed in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Funding for Free Travel and New Buses
The Transport Corporation will be reimbursed for allowing women over the age of 60 to travel for free on buses. A budget allocation of 1 crore rupees has been made for this purpose. In addition, the state government has provided a provision of 100 crore rupees in the supplementary budget for the financial year 2023-24 to include new buses in the fleet of the Transport Corporation.
Additional Budget Provisions
Provisions have also been made for various items for the Uttar Pradesh State Transport Appellate Authority, including 82 lakh for free travel of MPs in buses and motors as per recommendations of the National Judicial Commission, 1.30 lakh for compensation payments to the Transport Corporation, and 29.25 crore for payment of the remaining revised salary. Funds have also been allocated for the operation of the Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority and for the remuneration of judicial officers of the Accident Claims Authority.
Construction and Vehicle Purchase Funds
In addition, 10 lakh rupees have been provided for the construction of buildings such as regional, zonal, and sub-divisional transport offices and Sarathi Hall in Bareilly, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad, Hapur, Deoria, Sambhal, Jaunpur, Chitrakoot, and Chandauli. 1 Lakh rupees have been allocated for the construction of a multi-storey integrated modern transport building on Oliver Road in Hazratganj, Lucknow, and 50 lakh rupees have been provided for the purchase of vehicles for the Transport Commissioner’s office. The Yogi government’s supplementary budget is also being considered a populist budget.
