Start of Asia’s largest Sonpur Mela in Harihar region
The Sonpur Mela, which is the largest fair in Asia, has begun in the Harihar region. This fair is so special that not only people from Bihar, but also tourists from other countries visit it. If you want to attend this grand and unique fair that lasts for a month, there are several cheap and excellent options available to reach Sonpur from the capital city of Patna.
Buses and trains to Sonpur from Patna
If you want to go to the Sonpur Mela, you can take advantage of the bus service of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation from the Bankipur Bus Stand in Gandhi Maidan. In fact, a bus for Sonpur is available every 30 minutes. Currently, 30 buses are running for the fair, with a fare of only Rs. 63. These buses operate from 6 am to 8 pm.
Buses and trains from Patna Junction and Patliputra Junction
Several trains are also being operated directly from Patna Junction and Patliputra Junction to Sonpur. The train number 03284 Patna-Bauroni MEMU starts at 8:15 am from Patna Junction. Similarly, there are several train options available from Patliputra Junction from 7 am to 8 pm. The ticket for these trains starts from just Rs. 10.
Return journey by bus and train
To return from Sonpur Mela to Patna, the last bus is available until 7:30 pm. Similarly, if you do not intend to return at night due to theaters or other reasons, there are also several trains available from Sonpur and Hajipur stations from early morning to reach Patna. The last train, 05265 Darbhanga-Patliputra MEMU Special, starts at 6:35 pm from Sonpur for Patliputra Junction.
Why was the fair closed as soon as it started?
The local people and traders decided to close the fair in protest against the prevailing corruption. Their argument was that just a few days ago, the Malmash Mela was held in Rajgir, Bihar. In that fair, licenses were given to games, swings, merry-go-rounds, haunted houses, circus, theaters, etc. from the first day itself. However, despite a week after the inauguration of the Sonpur Mela in the Harihar region, there is a conspiracy to completely close the fair without granting any kind of license. However, the fair has been restarted from Saturday evening.
हरिहर क्षेत्र में चल रहे एशिया के सबसे बड़े सोनपुर मेले का आगाज हो चुका है। इस मेले में बिहार के अलावा दूसरे देशों के पर्यटक भी आते हैं। यात्रा करने के लिए पटना से सोनपुर जाने के लिए कई सस्ते और बेहतरीन विकल्प उपलब्ध हैं। इसके लिए बसें और ट्रेनें चलाई जा रही हैं। मेला के दौरान खेल-तमाशे, झूला, मारुती, मौत का कुआं, सर्कस और थिएटर आदि भी आयोजित किए जाते हैं। प्रशासन ने व्याप्त कुव्यवस्था के विरोध में मेले को बंद किया था, लेकिन बाद में मेला फिर से शुरू कर दिया गया है।
