Shivanand Tiwari, a close associate of Laloo Prasad Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, has been sentenced to one year in jail and fined 10,000 rupees by the MP-MLA Court. He was charged with defamation after making derogatory comments against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Minister Sanjay Jha. The case was filed in court and based on the evidence and witnesses, Shivanand Tiwari was found guilty of defamation. However, the court granted him provisional bail for 21 days after sentencing.

The case was filed by a JDU leader against Shivanand Tiwari after he made derogatory comments against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Minister Sanjay Jha in 2018. The JDU leader claimed that Tiwari’s comments had damaged his reputation and caused mental distress. The Special Court had taken cognizance of the case under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code and after hearing both sides, delivered the sentence.

During a press conference, Shivanand Tiwari had used derogatory language while referring to the relationship between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Minister Sanjay Jha. This incident took place in 2018 when the RJD was in opposition and Nitish Kumar and Sanjay Jha were part of the JDU-NDA alliance. Following the incident, the JDU leader filed a defamation case against Tiwari, leading to a political uproar.
