Banka Gramin Bank has issued arrest warrants against hundreds of Mahadalit families in Bihar’s Barahat block. The Vabhanga branch of the bank in Banka district has taken action against hundreds of people in the Dalit colony of Chobedih for defaulting on loans taken without any guarantee from the bank. As soon as the warrants were issued, the police arrested and jailed 200 out of the 400 Mahadalits. Most of the men in the colony have fled their homes out of fear of arrest, leaving only women behind.
Failure to return the money
According to Sushila Devi, a woman from the affected Mahadalit family in Chobedih, several years ago, Pankaj Chauhan and Damodar Chauhan from the same village took some documents under the pretext of providing government compensation. These two individuals distributed a sum of Rs 5,000 as compensation to each household and promised not to demand its return. However, after the bank issued notices and warrants, most of the men in the affected families have gone into hiding out of fear of arrest.
KCC loans given to 1,000 people
Amritanshu Kumar, the manager of the Vabhanga branch of Banka Gramin Bank, stated that approximately 1,000 people were given Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans ranging from Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 50,000 ten years ago. Out of these, 90% of the borrowers have failed to repay the bank, and now the recovery process is being carried out by the bank.
बिहार के बांका जिले में स्थित वभनगामा शाखा ने महादलित टोले के सैकड़ों लोगों के खिलाफ गिरफ्तारी वारंट जारी किया है। इससे पहले बैंक ने ऋण लेने वालों को नोटिस भेजा था। गिरफ्तारी के डर से लोगों ने अपने घर छोड़कर फरार हो गए हैं। पिछले दशक में कुछ लोगों ने महादलित परिवारों से पैसे लेकर उन्हें सरकारी मुआवजा दिलाने का वादा किया था, लेकिन इसके बावजूद लोन की रकम नहीं लौटाई गई। बैंक ने केसीसी लोन की वसूली के लिए कार्रवाई की शुरुआत की है।
