Childhood in Gopalganj:
Mukesh Kumar, the cricketer who overcame many challenges, was born into a farmer family in the Kakarkund village of Gopalganj district in Bihar. Despite his interest in cricket, his family emphasized education and discouraged him from playing the sport. However, Mukesh Kumar managed to save some money from his mother’s earnings and would secretly buy cricket balls to play in the village streets.
Selection and Struggles:
Mukesh Kumar’s talent was noticed by the then Thana In-charge of Kuchai Kot, who selected him for the district team. In 2015, he moved to West Bengal, where he faced financial difficulties while his father worked as an auto-rickshaw driver in Kolkata. Unable to pass the medical test for the army, he started playing club cricket in Kolkata where he earned Rs. 500 per match.
Rise to Success:
During his journey, Mukesh Kumar played in the Ranji Trophy representing Bengal and caught the attention of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Impressed by his bowling skills, Ganguly selected him for the Indian team’s net bowling. In December 2022, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for 5 crores in the IPL auction. With his career on the rise, Mukesh Kumar has achieved great success and continues to make his family and hometown of Gopalganj proud.
