Cybercrime cases in Bihar are rapidly increasing, with incidents where cyber criminals deceive people becoming more common. These cunning criminals use various tactics to trap people and extort money from them. They also misuse social media platforms, creating fake accounts to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting individuals. Even police officers, including high-ranking officials, are not spared, as these criminals create fake IDs even of police personnel and attempt to deceive them. Recently, two cases have come to light where fake accounts were created on Facebook in the names of the Inspector General of Vigilance and the Deputy Inspector General of Bettiah Range, with attempts made to deceive them. The Director General of Vigilance, Alok Raj, was shocked to discover that a fake Facebook account had been created in his name, and a written complaint has been filed with the police. The police are currently investigating the matter.

In another incident in Bhagalpur, cyber criminals attempted to deceive the Superintendent of Police by creating a fake ID in the name of the Deputy Inspector General, Jai Kant. However, the Superintendent of Police became aware of the scam in time and avoided falling into their trap. It has been reported that cyber criminals have also created a fake ID in the name of former MLC Hulas Pandey in the Brahmehswar Mukhiya murder case, surprising the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during the charge sheet after 11 years.

In yet another case, a cyber criminal contacted the Station House Officer of Mojahidpur Police Station in Bhagalpur through a fake ID of the Deputy Inspector General and claimed that a soldier was ill and funds were needed for his treatment. The criminal even made a WhatsApp call to the officer to collect funds. However, the officer sensed something suspicious and immediately contacted the actual Deputy Inspector General, Jai Kant. It was then revealed that the officer had narrowly escaped falling victim to cyber fraud. The officer informed the Deputy Inspector General about the fake ID, and further action is being taken in the case.
