Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren criticized the previous governments for the alleged misrule and neglect of the poor people of the state over the past two decades. Despite the central government’s delay in paying the coal royalty of 1.36 lakh crore rupees, Jharkhand has made significant progress in the last four years. Soren claimed that he became the Chief Minister in December 2019 after the formation of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led coalition government.
Since its formation on November 15, 2000, Jharkhand has mostly been ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Soren stated that the previous governments did nothing for the people of Jharkhand, especially the weaker sections of society. Poor people, including widows, had to struggle to receive their pensions. He addressed a meeting on the “Your Plan, Your Government, Your Door” (AYASAD) program in Ichak, Hazaribagh district. The executive vice-president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha said that during the previous government’s tenure, electricity was cut off in seven districts under the pretext of pending payments.
Soren accused the BJP-led central government of trying to harass the Jharkhand government by accusing it of corruption and using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for this purpose. He said, “The ED issued summons to me and several other officials, but we ignored it and focused on the development and improvement of the state’s economy.”
It is notable that the ED has issued several summonses to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for questioning in connection with alleged money laundering cases related to the land scam. Soren expressed hope that the Jharkhand government will soon get rid of the ED and decide to generate more electricity to become self-reliant in power production within the next year, eliminating the need for dependence on the power distribution company.
