Direct connectivity to Jewar Airport and Delhi Airport has been approved. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials on Tuesday to ensure direct connectivity between the upcoming Jewar Airport and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. According to an official statement, the proposed airport in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district’s Jewar area will have direct connectivity through metro, high-speed rapid rail, and road.
In a meeting on Tuesday with officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), North Railways, and North Central Railways, CM Yogi reviewed the development works related to the Jewar region. He mentioned that a few years ago, the area was struggling with crime and incidents of theft and dacoity were common. However, the situation has now changed.
CM Yogi said, “This region is gaining prominence due to the international airport. There is a proposed film city near the Jewar Airport. In the coming years, it will be the most developed area of NCR. Jewar Airport is set to become a major cargo hub. It is estimated that the Noida airport will serve 6.5 million passengers per year by 2024-25.”
He expressed hope that by 2042-43, the number of passengers per year will increase to 70 million. He emphasized the need for direct connectivity between Jewar Airport and Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Rapid rail and metro can be better options for this. The state government will provide all the necessary resources for this project in collaboration with the Indian government and NCRTC.
During the meeting, CM Yogi instructed officials to conduct a landing test on the runway in February. The construction of the runway, lighting system, and other processes should be expedited, keeping the safety aspects in mind. According to an official statement, railway officials informed the Chief Minister that a new railway line of approximately 98 kilometers is also being considered to enhance connectivity from the airport to Chola. Currently, discussions are ongoing at the railway board level. CM Yogi Adityanath also issued instructions to officials of Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority to make land available for the project.
