Land Dispute Turns Violent in Darbhanga, Bihar
A shocking incident has come to light in the land dispute case in Darbhanga district of Bihar. A large number of officials and police forces had reached to resolve the dispute when a person from the opposing party attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself and setting himself on fire during the land measurement process. As the fire started spreading on his body, the person started running here and there.
Police Officers Injured in Attempt to Extinguish the Fire
The police officers made an effort to extinguish the fire, during which one police officer’s uniform also caught fire. After a lot of difficulty, the fire was somehow brought under control. However, by that time, the family members of the victim became furious and attacked the police. The victim was taken to Darbhanga DMCH (Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital) and later referred to PMCH (Patna Medical College and Hospital) in critical condition.
Details of the Incident
In the Pindaruch village of Kamtaul police station area in Darbhanga, Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary set himself on fire by pouring petrol, while attacking the police who were emptying the land as per the court’s orders. During this incident, two police officers were also injured. It is said that Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary set himself on fire out of anger with the administration’s actions. In this sequence, two police officers got injured. According to the information, the land dispute between Dr. Nagendra Chaudhary and Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary has been going on for nearly 30 years. The Patna High Court had ordered the eviction of the land. Under this order, the previous CO (Circle Officer) of Basant Kumar Chaudhary had got the encroachment cleared. However, one party alleges that the encroachment was not completely cleared. On the other hand, Sanjeev Chaudhary’s son Ankit Kumar and Utpal Kumar have accused the local residents, Dr. Nagendra Chaudhary, Amar Nath Chaudhary, and Sumit Kumar Chaudhary, of land dispute that has been going on for many years, and claim that in order to vacate the house repeatedly, the previous circle officers Ajit Kumar, Suman Kumar Chaudhary, and Basant Kumar Singh had cleared the encroachment by getting the house vacated. However, on Wednesday, the CO of Kamtaul along with the police force reached the house again and started demolishing it, after which the administration set the house on fire.
