Manikpur Panchayat under Thakurganj block in Gaurakshini district is becoming a popular tourist destination. People from neighboring states and districts have been flocking to the Mopahadi area since December 30 to celebrate the New Year. Mopahadi is being developed as a tourist spot and the view of Kahalgaon village and its surroundings from the top of the hill adds to the charm. Every year, tourists come here to enjoy picnics and take selfies with the thousands of Jetropha plants that have been planted on the hill. The Maa Kharahari temple on top of the hill also hosts a grand fair every year, where people pray for a prosperous New Year. People from Sahibganj, Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon, Boriyo, Barahat, and Bengal come to celebrate the New Year in Mopahadi. There are several routes to reach here, including Barahat-Thakurganj via Bihar, 15 kilometers from Mirzachowki railway station in Bihar, and five kilometers from Bhagaiya. People from Pakur and Sahibganj can also reach here by traveling 15 kilometers. Facilities for accommodation are available for tourists, with arrangements made at the tourist building in Mopahadi. Electricity, water, and toilet facilities are also provided. Special attention is being given to maintain discipline and prevent any incidents related to alcohol. Some youths from the Panchayat have been appointed as volunteers, and extensive lighting arrangements are being made for the convenience of the people.
