Bihar’s Betia to Mangalpur road will be converted into a four-lane highway, stretching approximately 69 kilometers. This expansion will improve connectivity from Betia to Gopalganj and enhance Uttar Pradesh’s connectivity as well. Additionally, it will also reduce the noise pollution caused by large vehicles. The distance between Betia and Gopalganj will be reduced by around 80 kilometers. Furthermore, a flyover will be constructed on NH-727 at Betia Station Chowk, relieving the city from traffic congestion. The construction work for both projects is expected to begin in 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The process of constructing a road from Gopalganj to Mangalpur is already underway, according to sources. Mangalpur has a bridge over the Gandak river. However, the width of the road from the other side of the Mangalpur bridge to Betia is very narrow. Consequently, large vehicles traveling from Betia to Gopalganj and onwards to Uttar Pradesh had to take a longer route through Motihari. With the widening of NH, the vehicles traveling from Betia to Gopalganj will now have to cover a distance of only 45 kilometers instead of 125 kilometers, resulting in time and fuel savings.

The pace of construction for the Munger-Mirzachowki four-lane NH is slow, causing inconvenience for commuters using this route. While road construction has begun, the work for filling soil in several areas remains incomplete. This greenfield corridor, spanning approximately 124 kilometers, is being built in four packages at an estimated cost of around 5788 crores INR. The target is to complete this project by January 2025. Recently, the Patna High Court also issued instructions to expedite the construction work. This road construction will also facilitate inter-state transportation services from Jharkhand and West Bengal. Moreover, it will benefit the people of districts like Munger, Jamui, Banka, Khagaria, Begusarai, and Lakhisarai.

For the construction of Patna Ring Road, the district administration has provided land acquisition details between Sherpur and Kanhauli to NHAI. However, due to the delay in the publication of the acquisition notice, the land acquisition process is also being delayed. This is also affecting the construction of the ring road. After receiving the acquisition notice from NHAI, the district administration will issue a notification for the relevant land acquisition. According to officials, approximately 186 acres of land in
