Ramdeep Singh, a farmer from Kanch Prakhand area of the district, is earning up to 10 lakhs annually from vermin composting. Surprisingly, all his compost goes to tea gardens in West Bengal.
The process of vermin composting and its benefits
Vermin compost is prepared using kitchen waste material and animal dung. It is used not only in farming but also for growing plants in nurseries. The advantage of using vermin compost is that it increases the fertility of the fields without causing any harm to health.
कुंदन कुमार, गया जिले के एक किसान हैं जो वर्मी कंपोस्ट के व्यवसाय से मुनाफा कमा रहे हैं। उनके पास 40 बेड हैं और प्रत्येक बेड से 2 से 3 गाड़ी वर्मी कंपोस्ट का उत्पादन होता है। उनका सारा कंपोस्ट पश्चिम बंगाल के चाय बागान को जाता है। उन्होंने वर्ष 2011 से वर्मी कंपोस्ट का उत्पादन व्यावसायिक रूप में करना शुरू किया है और सालाना 10 लाख रुपए तक कमा रहे हैं। इसके अलावा उन्होंने आसपास के किसानों को जैविक खेती करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया है। उनकी जैविक खेती को बिहार के तत्कालीन कृषि मंत्री भी देखने पहुंचे थे। वर्मी कंपोस्ट बनाने के लिए उन्हें किचेन से निकलने वाले वेस्ट मटेरियल और जानवरों के गोबर का उपयोग करना पड़ता है। इसका उपयोग खेती और नर्सरी में पौधा उगाने के लिए किया जाता है और इससे खेतों की उर्वरा शक्ति बढ़ती है। वर्मी कंपोस्ट बनाने में 2 से 3 महीने का समय लगता है।
