Indian Workers Stranded in Jordan, Seeking Assistance from Indian Government

Over 120 Indian workers, including five from Sitamarhi district, are currently stranded in Jordan. The company where they were employed has shut down, leaving them without their wages. Additionally, their visas and passports have been confiscated, making it impossible for them to return home. In a video plea, the workers are requesting the Indian government’s assistance in repatriating them.

Details of the Stranded Workers

Among the workers stranded in Jordan are Mohammad Kurban from Suppi Block in Prakhand, who went to Jordan on February 16, 2022, Rajesh Kumar who went on August 28, 2021, Raju Kumar who went on August 15, 2023, Mohammad Jakir who went on October 30, 2019, and Junaid Baitha, a 28-year-old from Bathnaha Prakhand, who went on August 28, 2021. All of them have released videos appealing to the government for assistance, causing concern among their families.

Plight of the Stranded Workers

The situation is dire for the Indian and other foreign workers stranded in Jordan. Along with more than 120 Indians, there are also a significant number of workers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The information reveals that around 500 workers from India and neighboring countries are currently stuck there. Some of these workers have friendly relations with India. The stranded workers in Jordan are facing severe difficulties, including food shortages and lack of access to water. They are unable to perform essential daily tasks such as using the restroom and bathing due to the scarcity of water.
