Ranchi: The Jharkhand government is considering taking departmental action against IAS officer Rajiv Arun Ekka, who is currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Department. Ekka has been accused of managing tenders and accepting money in exchange for transfers and postings of officials. The Ministry of Personnel, Administrative Reforms, and Rajbhasha has written a letter to the Ministry of Home and Vigilance Department, requesting their opinion on taking action against Ekka.
ED asked ACB to investigate: In September, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) wrote a letter to the ACB requesting them to investigate the case related to IAS officer Rajiv Arun Ekka. In the letter, the ED stated that the allegations against Ekka, along with other suspects, fall under the provisions of Sections 7, 7A, 8, 9, 10, 11 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 201, 203, 204, and 120B of the IPC. The ED also mentioned that an investigation into the accumulation of assets beyond means should be conducted against Ekka.
Allegations during money laundering case: During the investigation into the money laundering case, the ED obtained digital evidence related to one of the accused, Vishal Chaudhary. After examining the evidence, it was alleged that IAS officer Rajiv Arun Ekka misused his position and power to accept money in exchange for managing tenders and transfers/postings of officials.
BJP releases video clip: Last year, the state president of the BJP, Babulal Marandi, released a 22-second video clip accusing Rajiv Arun Ekka. In the clip, Ekka can be seen signing papers in a file at the Argora Chowk office of Vishal Chaudhary. A woman can be seen standing next to him, who is said to be a staff member of Chaudhary. The voice of Chaudhary can be heard in the background, questioning the woman about the non-receipt of money from someone. Ekka then makes a phone call to inquire about the money.
