Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is not just the dream of one person, but of millions of people. On 22nd January, with the Pran Pratishtha ceremony, this dream will come true. A 85-year-old elderly woman from Jharkhand is also ready to break her vow of silence after three decades. In 1992, when the Babri Masjid was demolished, she started her vow and resolved to break it only after the inauguration of the Ram Mandir.

Popularly known as “Mouni Mata”, Saraswati Devi from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, left for Ayodhya on Monday night to witness the inauguration of the Ram Mandir. She is known for her symbolic communication through sign language or writing with her family members.

Her youngest son, Hare Ram Agarwal, shared that his mother took a vow of silence when the Babri Masjid was demolished on 6th December 1992. Since the announcement of the date for the inauguration of the temple, she has been happy.

Saraswati Devi dedicated her entire life to Lord Ram. After the death of her husband, Devki Nandan Agarwal, in 1986, she devoted herself to the worship of Lord Ram and spent most of her time on pilgrimages. Currently, she lives with her second son, Nandalal Agarwal, in Dhaya, Dhanbad, who is an officer in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

Saraswati Devi’s daughter-in-law, Innu Agarwal, shared that her mother-in-law took a vow of silence in devotion to Lord Ram soon after her marriage. After the demolition of the Babri Masjid, she visited Ayodhya and took a vow of silence until the construction of the Ram Mandir. She remained silent for 23 hours a day, only speaking for an hour in the afternoon.

According to Innu, her mother-in-law stopped speaking completely since the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the temple. She wakes up around 4 am every morning and spends around six to seven hours in meditation. After the evening Aarti, she studies religious scriptures like the Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita. She only eats one meal a day and consumes a glass of milk in the morning and evening. Her diet consists of vegetarian food, including rice, lentils, and roti.

Innu also mentioned that in 2001, Devi performed a seven-month-long penance in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, where Lord Ram is believed to have spent a significant part of his exile. Besides this, she has also undertaken various pilgrimages across the country.
