In Jamui, Bihar, a case has emerged where the family of a girl forcefully took a teacher from his rented room and got him married in a temple. The video of this incident has also gone viral on social media, showing that the teacher was also beaten during the wedding ceremony. The incident is related to the Giddhaur Prakhand area of Jamui district.
The teacher, Mukesh Kumar Verma, who was appointed as an assistant teacher at Banjhulia Middle School, was forcefully married off. It is said that Mukesh Kumar Verma is a resident of Beladari in the Chakai Prakhand area of Jamui district. He had passed the teacher recruitment exam conducted by the BPSC last year and was appointed as an assistant teacher at Banjhulia Middle School.
In the video, teacher Mukesh Kumar Verma can be heard saying that he did not agree to this marriage and it is being forced upon him. He claimed that since his appointment as a BPSC teacher, the family of Purnima Kumari, also known as Sapna, from Kenduadih in the Chakai Prakhand area, had been pressurizing him to marry her. However, he had been refusing.
Meanwhile, the relatives of Sapna came to his rented house and forcibly took him to the Panch Mandir premises in Giddhaur, where they performed the wedding ceremony according to Hindu rituals.
After the marriage, the bride, Purnima Kumari, stated that they had been in a relationship since 2015. After several years of being in a relationship, their families decided to get them married about two years ago. Everything was fine until Mukesh got the job as a BPSC teacher. He stopped talking to her and avoided her. After that, her family decided to get her married.
The police have not been informed about the case. The Giddhaur police station in-charge, Brijbushan Singh, stated that they have no information about the incident. However, if a written complaint is filed, the police will take action. Currently, the case of the forced marriage in Jamui is a topic of discussion.
