Justin Imam, known for his efforts to promote traditional Sohrai and Khovar art in Jharkhand, passed away on Saturday in Hazaribagh. He was the eldest son of renowned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Bulu Imam. Justin suffered a heart attack at 3 pm on Saturday and took his last breath at his local residence in Deoghar. He was 49 years old. His father, grieving the loss, stated that Justin was buried in the Hazaribagh cemetery.
Justin’s efforts led to the recognition of Sohrai art with a Geographic Indicator (GI) tag. Bulu Imam explained that due to Justin’s efforts, Sohrai and Khovar paintings found a place on the walls of the new Parliament building. Justin’s demise is a huge loss for the artists involved in reviving the state’s traditional art.
Bulu Imam mentioned that Justin played a significant role in bestowing the Padma Shri award upon him. He stated that many rural artists have gained recognition at the national and international level due to Justin’s efforts and hard work. Justin was honored with several national and international awards for promoting tribal art and supporting artists.
झारखंड के प्रसिद्ध पर्यावरणविद् और पद्मश्री पुरस्कार से सम्मानित बुलु इमाम के पुत्र जस्टिन इमाम का शनिवार को हजारीबाग में निधन हो गया। जस्टिन के प्रयासों के कारण, झारखंड की सोहराई और खोवर पेंटिंग को भौगोलिक पहचान (जीआई) टैग मिला था और उन्होंने इसे नए संसद भवन की दीवारों में भी स्थान दिया था। जस्टिन के प्रयासों और मेहनत के कारण बहुत सारे कलाकारों को राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर नाम कमाने का मौका मिला था। उन्हें पद्मश्री पुरस्कार भी मिला था। जस्टिन की मृत्यु से झारखंड कला संस्कृति को बहुत बड़ा नुकसान हुआ है।
