Cybercrime has become a major concern in Jharkhand, with 8,674 bank accounts being frozen due to suspicions of being involved in phishing activities. In Devghar district, approximately 2002 accounts have been frozen, while 1183 accounts in Dhanbad and 959 accounts in Ranchi have also been affected. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center provided information on these frozen accounts, which were then compiled into a list based on districts and banks.
In relation to cybercrime cases, 494 individuals have been arrested. The Director-General of the Jharkhand Crime Investigation Center, Anurag Gupta, stated that the list of frozen accounts will be shared with the police superintendents of all districts for verification. If any of these bank accounts are found to be involved in fraudulent or cybercriminal activities, appropriate action will be taken against them.
Jharkhand is currently running a major campaign against cybercrime, with 494 individuals being arrested in connection with such cases. Additionally, 107 individuals are facing FIRs for cyber fraud, and 1,164 mobile phones and 1,725 SIM cards have been seized. Various districts, including Devghar, Giridih, Bokaro, Jamtara, and Ranchi, are conducting continuous raids against cybercriminals.
On Monday, 16 cybercriminals were arrested in Bokaro. They were found to be residing in rented houses near the cooperative colony. The police are actively working to combat cybercrime in Jharkhand and take necessary actions against those involved.
