Bihar’s education department is currently facing a new controversy due to the alleged misconduct of the Block Education Officer (BEO) and the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in the context of mid-day meals served in schools in the Teghra block of Begusarai. The SDM has accused the BEO, Ram Uday Mahato, of harassment and of summoning her to his house in the dark of the night. The matter has been reported to the police station.
According to the victim’s statement, the BEO, Ram Uday Mahato, made inappropriate phone calls to her on January 5th. She has also alleged that she was threatened with job loss and consequences if she complained to the education department officials and opposed Mahato’s indecent actions. The police have initiated an investigation into the case.
The victim further revealed that she had been working as an SDM in the Teghra block for the past four years. About six months ago, Ram Uday Mahato became the BEO, and since then, he had been making inappropriate advances towards her. He would send various emojis and ask her to come to his house at night.
The victim also stated that Mahato would demand her photos and threaten to empty her office at the Block Resource Centre (BRC) if she did not comply with his requests. She mentioned that he would also message women with attractive profile pictures on WhatsApp. Prior to his transfer to Teghra, Mahato was working in Khagaria, where he would send inappropriate messages to female teachers. The victim’s complaint has been registered at the women’s police station.
The allegations made against the BEO, Ram Uday Mahato, are currently under investigation. The Sub Divisional Education Officer stated that the accusations are baseless, and an FIR has been filed in response to his application. The Superintendent of Police, Yogendra Kumar, confirmed that a case has been registered at the women’s police station based on the SDM’s complaint, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar has been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation before further action is taken.
