Bihar is currently experiencing a severe cold wave, with fog and cold weather prevailing across the state, including the capital city of Patna. The weather department has provided information on when relief can be expected. People in the Bhagalpur district have also been affected by the intense cold, with no sight of sunlight this week. To stay warm, people are using heaters and lighting fires in their homes throughout the day. This has disrupted household chores and is affecting the health of women and elderly people. The quality of air has also deteriorated due to pollution, making breathing difficult for the residents.
According to Dr. Sunil Kumar, the nodal officer of the rural agricultural weather service at BAU Sabour, the cold weather in Bhagalpur may continue until January 22nd. There is a possibility of an increase in temperature from January 23rd. During this time, there will be fog in the morning, and the western winds are expected to blow. Farmers are advised not to carry out any activities in the fields during strong winds. They should irrigate their wheat and vegetables according to their needs. There is a possibility of potato crops being affected by late blight disease, so constant monitoring of the fields is recommended.
The Bihar weather department has provided information on when the intense cold will subside. In the Seemanchal region, the cold wave will continue for the next five days. Purnia will experience severe cold for the next five days as well. The weather department has issued a high alert and advised people to remain cautious. The lowest layer of the upper atmosphere will have freezing and cold winds, intensifying the cold weather. During this time, there will be dense fog in the morning and evening, possibly causing a decrease in maximum temperatures. According to weather experts, the cold wave will continue during this period.
On Friday morning, the city of Purnia experienced dense fog, causing residents to shiver. The visibility was greatly reduced due to the fog, causing traffic problems. The fog was so dense that it was difficult to see up to a hundred meters. The fog cleared after 10 am, but the sky remained cloudy throughout the day, preventing sunlight from reaching the city. Due to the cold and freezing winds, people are relying on fires for warmth, even during the day. The residents of the city are struggling to cope with the bone-chilling cold.
In Purnia, Saturday was a cold day, and there is no relief from the cold on Sunday either. The fog and freezing winds have made the cold more intense. Due to the intense cold, there was relatively less activity in malls and public places in the city.
