Manish Kumar/Katihar: The Indian Railways is continuously making efforts to improve passenger facilities. In line with this, the railway has introduced the facility of lifts and escalators at Katihar Railway Station to facilitate the easy movement of elderly, sick, and differently-abled individuals. Under the Accessible India Mission of the Government of India, the railway station and trains are being made accessible for persons with disabilities. The facilities at Katihar Junction have been expanded in this regard, with lifts being installed on platforms 2, 3, 6, and 7, taking into consideration easy accessibility and passenger convenience.
Relief for people with the facility of lifts and escalators: According to the DRM Chaudhary Vijay Kumar, now elderly, sick, and differently-abled individuals do not have to climb stairs to move from one platform to another at Katihar. Lifts have been installed at two separate platforms in Katihar for passenger convenience, while escalators have also been installed on both sides for station entry. This has made the movement of people more convenient. It is worth mentioning that in the commitment to improve passenger facilities and make railway stations more user-friendly, Northeast Frontier Railway has also constructed lifts, automatic stairs, and foot overbridges at stations with high footfall. The same has been done at Katihar Railway Junction.

Katihar is the largest railway station in the Kosi region. People from not only Katihar district but also from different districts reach here to catch trains and move from one end to the other to reach their destination. Katihar station witnesses the movement of more than 20,000 passengers every day from over three dozen trains that run in all directions. In such a scenario, the availability of lifts and escalators at Katihar Junction has made it much easier for passengers.
