Cyber criminals in Bihar are now using the names of IAS and IPS officers to create fake Facebook accounts and deceive people. This new method of fraud has increased the troubles of these officers as their names are being misused on social media platforms. This has also raised concerns among senior officials. Recently, the personal Facebook account of the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur, Subrat Kumar Sen, was hacked and a fake account was created. Similar incidents have also occurred with other IPS and IAS officers.
The cyber criminals created a fake Facebook account in the name of the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur, Subrat Sen, after hacking his personal account. Suddenly, on Wednesday evening, people started receiving friend requests from the DM’s old friends list. The DM’s relatives also reported the fake account and appealed to report it on Facebook. After this incident, the police were informed and the cyber cell and social media wing of the Bhagalpur police became active. They started investigating the case, deleting the fake account, and searching for the cyber criminals.
In another incident, cyber criminals created two fake Facebook accounts in the name of former DG Abhayanand and attempted to deceive people. Abhayanand filed a case against the unknown perpetrators at the cyber police station and also informed people about the incident through his real Facebook account. The criminals posted photos and other content from Abhayanand’s original Facebook account on the fake account and attempted to scam people through Messenger. People informed Abhayanand about this incident.
The police in Bihar are facing a new headache with cyber fraud cases, where even educated people are falling victim to these scams. The District Magistrate of Gopalganj, Dr. Naval Kishor Chaudhary, also had a fake Facebook ID created in his name, through which people were being asked for money.
