Delhi Traffic Police: Delhi Police, which prides itself on maintaining strong security arrangements in the capital, is itself not safe in Delhi. This was exemplified in an incident that took place in the Cantt area of Delhi, where a man assaulted a head constable when asked for his license. The youth initially drove his car towards the head constable and then dragged him on the bonnet for nearly 800 meters. The constable was seriously injured in the incident. After the incident, the accused driver, Rashid Ali, managed to flee the scene but was apprehended by beat staff and other drivers at a red light. The police took the accused driver into custody and brought him to Delhi Cantt police station.
The incident occurred when Delhi Traffic Police officials, SSI Hanuman Sahay and Head Constable Balwant Singh, were conducting vehicle checks near the IGI Terminal. During this time, they stopped a car with registration number UP-16-JT-0656. The police officers asked the driver, Rashid Ali, to show his license and vehicle documents. Rashid informed the police that he had already received a fine and his license was confiscated.
Upon hearing this, Rashid became angry and ran towards the police officers. SSI Hanuman Sahay saw the car approaching at high speed, but Head Constable Balwant pushed him onto the bonnet. The accused driver, Rashid Ali, then dragged Head Constable Balwant for nearly 800 meters.
Head Constable Balwant suffered serious injuries in the incident. According to reports, his fingers were injured. The accused, Rashid Ali, is said to be a resident of Meerut. A case has been registered against him under IPC Section 307 and action is being taken against him.
