Bihar’s political situation has changed recently, with the Congress party now becoming part of the opposition after being part of the Mahagathbandhan government. Senior leaders of the Congress party held a meeting to discuss the political events in Bihar. The meeting took place at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday and was attended by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Bihar Congress in-charge Mohan Prakash, Bihar PCC President Akhilesh Prasad Singh, and other senior leaders including MLAs.
The meeting discussed the future of the Congress party after joining Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and also discussed the strength of the Congress organization in Bihar. The meeting also delved into the current situation of the Congress party in Bihar in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In the new cabinet formation, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has separated from the Congress and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD and joined hands with the BJP. He recently took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar from the NDA. During this time, two BJP leaders also took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. After the formation of the new government, the Home Department, which was the most discussed, has been retained by CM Nitish Kumar. It is said that the BJP wanted the Home Department in its portfolio. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has been given 9 departments including Finance and Health, while Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has been given 9 departments including Agriculture, Road, Revenue, and Land Reforms.
In the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the RJD, led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, has the highest number of 79 MLAs. After Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s growing affinity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Bharat Ratna award to Jayaprakash Narayan, the RJD moved from being in power to being in direct opposition. Along with the RJD, the Congress has 19 MLAs and the Left parties have 16 MLAs in the opposition. The total number of MLAs is 114.
In the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has 78 MLAs, Janata Dal United led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has 45 MLAs, and Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular led by former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi has four MLAs. Apart from these, there is one independent MLA who was also part of the previous Mahagathbandhan government with Nitish Kumar and is still with him. Thus, the number of MLAs in the ruling party is 128. In comparison to the ruling party’s 128, the opposition has 114 MLAs. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen party has one MLA who is neutral. Now let’s see the magical number of 122. This means that the ruling party has six more MLAs and the opposition has eight fewer.
