Discussion on Sikh Passengers’ Security Check at Airports

In recent days, there has been a discussion among agencies related to aviation security regarding the security check of Sikh passengers. The main concern for security agencies is the presence of sharp objects within the international rules and religious beliefs of the Sikh community.

Two Systems for Security Check of Sikh Passengers

According to senior officials involved in aviation security, there are currently two systems in place for Sikh passengers carrying sharp objects at Indian airports. The first system is for domestic air travel by Sikh passengers, while the second system is for international travel. Sikh passengers can carry their sharp objects during domestic air travel, but it is prohibited during international travel.

Proposed Solutions for Sikh Passengers’ Security Check

One proposed solution is to create dedicated corridors for the security check of Sikh passengers carrying sharp objects at Delhi airport. Another solution is to restrict the use of sharp objects in the integrated pre-embarkation security check area for both international and domestic passengers. The implementation of dedicated corridors would eliminate the possibility of sharp objects reaching other passengers and the glass partition within the corridor would allow security checks for both Sikh passengers and airline crew/staff.
