Mumbai-Delhi Expressway: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway today, February 12th. The first phase of the expressway from Delhi to Dausa-Lalsoth has already been completed. The 246-kilometer long Delhi-Dausa-Lalsoth section was constructed at a cost of Rs 12,150 crore. After the inauguration, the stretch between Delhi and Jaipur will begin from Saturday. With a length of 1,386 kilometers, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is the longest expressway in the country.
Setting World Records:
During its construction, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway achieved two world records. Firstly, it was the fastest construction of a four-lane expressway, with 2.5 kilometers being laid in 24 hours. Secondly, it set a world record for the largest quantity of charcoal used in a 100-kilometer stretch of a single lane, with 25 lakh tons of charcoal being utilized. Additionally, 4,000 trainers were employed for the construction work of the expressway.
94 Different Facilities:
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway includes a wide range of modern amenities, making it unique in the world of electronics. It offers a total of 94 different services, including ATMs, radio stations, restaurants, dormitories, hospitals, food courts, and fuel stations, among others.
Asia’s First Expressway:
This expressway passes through five states of the country. It entered Haryana after Delhi, followed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat before reaching Maharashtra. During the entry into these states, special attention was given to avoid any damage to reserved forests and wildlife. Additionally, there are two tunnels on this expressway, located in Rajasthan’s Mukundra Sanctuary and Maharashtra’s Eco-Sensitive Zone, ensuring no harm to these sensitive regions. According to HT Auto, this is Asia’s first expressway with such features.
Eight-Lane Highway with Green Energy:
With a total of 12 lanes, the expressway is the widest highway in the country. It allows cars to travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour and connects Kota, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vadodara, and Surat between Delhi and Mumbai. In addition, the expressway promotes green energy by planting around 20 lakh trees and using solar energy and state-owned rent. In the future, it is planned to power train/tram cars with electricity, providing various benefits and reducing the impact of climate change.
