Green Cess on lines of Fastag has been agreed upon by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Transport Secretary Arvind Singh Hanke confirmed this on Tuesday, stating that a communication has been sent to the Centre in recent days to connect the Green Cess with Fastag. The Centre has given its approval and a system is being prepared to link Green Cess with FASTag. The government has decided to impose taxes on private and commercial vehicles coming from outside the state, following the model of Himachal Pradesh. This is called the Green Cess and its implementation notification was issued in February. The government wants to implement the deduction of Green Cess through FASTag before the start of the government Char Dham Yatra season.
During the Char Dham Yatra, lakhs of private and commercial vehicles come to Uttarakhand. The impact of the Green Cess, ranging from 20 to 80 rupees, will not have a major effect on travelers, but this amount is not insignificant in terms of state revenue. The preparation for implementing Green Cess is also in full swing. According to transport officials, the state hopes to receive more than 40 crore rupees from the Green Cess alone.
The Fastag system is suitable for implementing the Green Cess. All check posts have been abolished in the state as per the instructions of the central government. The Fastag system is being prepared. “Arvind Singh Hanke, Transport Secretary.
