Delhi Metro Phase 4 Delay

The Delhi government has clarified that approval has not yet been given for the remaining three corridors of Phase 4. The Delhi government has stated that the central government is trying to expedite approval for the three pending corridors as soon as possible.

Construction of New Metro Lines

Three new metro corridors are being constructed between Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram Marg, Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad, and Majlis Park to Maujpur. After obtaining financial and administrative approvals, the obstacles in the construction of these three corridors will be removed, leading to faster progress in the work. A total of 45 new metro stations will be built in these three corridors spanning 65.20 km.

Formation of High Power Committee

A high-power committee will be formed with the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government at the helm. The main objective of this committee will be to address and verify all issues related to Delhi, including land acquisition, utility transfer, project structure changes, rehabilitation of affected people, and multimodal integration.

Reasons for Delay

The delay in the construction of the three metro corridors of Phase 4 is due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The establishment of the other three corridors is also uncertain. However, the DMRC had started preparing a new DPR last year to extend the Rithala-Bawana-Narela corridor to Kundli in Haryana.
