AIIMS in New Delhi has introduced India’s first 7 Tesla MRI machine, which can detect even the smallest details inside the body with ease. With only 7 such machines available worldwide for patient examinations, having one at AIIMS is a significant achievement. Availability and Importance
Currently, there are only 10 centers worldwide that have the 7 Tesla MRI machine, with 4 of them located in Europe. Dr. Vivek Gupta, an associate professor at Mayo Clinic in the USA, emphasized the importance of having this machine at institutes like AIIMS where the patient volume is high. The 7 Tesla MRI machine is crucial for understanding even the smallest variations in diseases like epilepsy, making it a boon for both doctors and patients.
Significance and Applications
The upgrade from 3 Tesla to 7 Tesla MRI machines has revolutionized neuroimaging and diagnostic capabilities. Dr. S.B. Gaikwad, head of the Neurosciences department at AIIMS, highlighted the importance of the 7 Tesla MRI in detecting microscopic processes in conditions like strokes, brain tumors, and spinal cord disorders. The higher resolution and accuracy of the 7 Tesla MRI make it ideal for identifying even the smallest abnormalities, making it a valuable tool for precise diagnosis and treatment.
