Smart Farming in Masaudha Village, Gaya
In the Masaudha village of Dobhi block in Gaya, farmer Yadunandan Yadav is practicing smart farming. He is using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT) in his fields. With the help of sensor-equipped machines in the fields, he gathers information about soil moisture levels and understands the surrounding weather conditions. Organizations like NABARD and IFFCO have supported him in this venture, where he experiments with new techniques in his 5-acre farm.
Benefits of Soil Moisture Sensors in Agriculture
Aside from Yadunandan, 11 other farmers in the village have also installed soil moisture sensor machines in their fields, connected to their mobile phones. This technology helps farmers understand the moisture levels in the soil, allowing them to make informed decisions about irrigation. If the moisture levels drop below 35%, farmers receive alerts and can take necessary actions. This initiative has resulted in increased crop yields and efficient water management in the fields.
Promoting Smart Agriculture Among Small Farmers
The implementation of smart farming techniques is not only benefiting large-scale farmers like Yadunandan but also small and marginal farmers in the region. This initiative, supported by organizations like NABARD, aims to mitigate the effects of climate change on crops and transform potential losses into gains. Through satellite monitoring and advanced agricultural practices, farmers in the Dobhi block are experiencing increased productivity and better crop health.
