Watermelon farming can be a lucrative business, filling your pockets in a short amount of time. Farmers in Gaya district of Bihar have embraced this and are seeing positive results. Despite the crop taking only two to three months to grow, it can bring in significant earnings.

Dharmendra Kumar’s Success Story

Dharmendra Kumar, a resident of Chandauti in Gaya city, is cultivating watermelon on 6 acres of land. With a daily production of three to four tons of watermelon in his fields, he is earning around Rs. 70,000 per day. His choice of Jannat variety watermelon, which matures in 60-70 days, has enabled him to earn nearly Rs. 10 lakh in just two months.

Organic Farming Practices

Dharmendra Kumar has also diversified his farming practices by growing other fruits and vegetables alongside watermelon on his 14-acre land in Chandauti. Employing fully organic methods, he cultivates muskmelons, cucumbers, and various green vegetables. By implementing drip irrigation and mulching in his fields, he ensures optimal production with minimal water usage, supplying his produce to Gaya, Nawada, and Patna districts.
