Shakahari Gaav Bihar

In Gaya, Bihar, there is a village called Bihiai where all the people are vegetarians. Consumption of meat, fish, and alcohol is completely prohibited here. This village is located in the Wazirganj block of the district and is known as a vegetarian village with discussions about it happening throughout the district. The people here have been following the tradition of not consuming non-vegetarian food or alcohol for generations, and it is said that due to the temple of Brahm Baba in the village, the residents refrain from consuming meat, fish, or alcohol.

Vaishnavi Gaav in Gaya

The Vaishnavi village in Gaya district is well-known for its traditions. With a population of about 40 households, the majority of the people belong to the Rajput community. The strict adherence to the tradition of not consuming meat, fish, or alcohol has been passed down through generations, and even those living or working outside the village follow these practices. Even new brides who come to the village are expected to abide by these rules, and if someone accidentally consumes non-vegetarian food, they are required to cleanse themselves before re-entering the village.

Brahm Baba’s Influence in the Village

Legend has it that years ago, a man in the village tried to slaughter a goat, but despite several attempts, the animal’s head could not be severed. Taking this as a sign of Brahm’s power and divine will, the villagers gave up eating meat and fish. The fame of Brahm Baba extends far and wide, with people coming to the village to seek blessings and offer prayers, especially after the harvest season. The offerings made to Brahm Baba after the first harvest are considered sacred in the village.
