In 2019, Pashupati Kumar Paras won this seat by a margin of over two lakh votes, defeating Shiv Chandra Ram. This seat belonged to the late Ram Vilas Paswan, and after his passing, Pashupati Kumar Paras took charge. Chirag Paswan was the MP from Jamui in the previous election. After his father’s death, Chirag was contesting as an NDA candidate from Hajipur. However, his uncle Paras was not willing to give up this seat. With Chirag now contesting from Hajipur, the focus is on whether Paras will support him or not.

Chirag Paswan not only faces challenges from the Mahagathbandhan but also from some within his own party. There are indications that some leaders from the LJP (United) are not fully supportive of him. Chirag is aware that there are obstacles in his path, including some within his party. Tejashwi Yadav, who leads the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, also wants to prevent any new faces from emerging in Bihar. Munna Shukla in Vaishali is playing a role in this strategy. With strong support from Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, Chirag’s path is being made difficult from all sides.
