Traditional Water Conservation Methods

In earlier times, large landowners used to dig ponds on their land to facilitate water conservation. There were no tube wells or borewells back then, and all work was done through these ponds. However, nowadays, people living near these ponds are encroaching upon them, leading to a situation of concern.

Government-Managed Ponds in Benipur Municipality

There are 43 government-managed ponds in the Benipur Municipality area. However, most of these ponds have not been desilted for years, leading to concerns about drying up during the summer season. The Thangar Development Department in Patna directed a report to be sent regarding the condition of these ponds in 2019-20.

Deteriorating Condition of Rural Ponds

The situation is also grim for over 100 government and non-government ponds in rural areas. The existence of the Bhavandaiya pond, spread over 11 bighas in Pohadi village, is being threatened. A similar situation is observed for the government pond in Pohadi village.

Upcoming Actions

The main councilor of Benipur, Mohammad Ikbal, mentioned that a letter will soon be written to the regional officer regarding this issue. Action will be taken against encroachers, and the municipality will address the situation promptly.
