With the help of modern techniques, farmers can set up a laboratory at home to produce mushroom seeds. The process of preparing spawn for mushrooms does not incur high costs. However, farmers can progress further by receiving training in this field from agricultural science centers.

Training for Mushroom Seed Production

According to agricultural scientists, farmers need to have knowledge of certain technical aspects to prepare mushroom seeds. Lack of information can lead to difficulties. Farmers are provided with free training on everything from preparing mushroom seeds to production. Progressive farmers are also guided on the process of mushroom production. The government is providing machines to farmers at subsidized rates to prepare mushroom seeds, enabling them to increase their income.

Producing Mushroom Seeds

To prepare mushroom seeds, wheat grains should be washed and boiled until they soften. After cooling the boiled wheat, a certain amount of calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate powder should be added. The bag containing 200 grams, 500 grams, or 1 kilogram of polypropylene should be sealed tightly with a non-woven fabric. The bag should be subjected to outclaving at 212 degrees Celsius and 15 PSI pressure for 2 hours, followed by cooling to room temperature. The bag is then inoculated with tissue culture, spore culture, or master culture on a laminar flow machine. After inoculation, the bag is kept in an inoculation room at a temperature of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius for 10 to 12 days. The entire process results in the preparation of mushroom seeds, which can be stored in a cold room at 3 to 4 degrees Celsius for 4 to 6 months.
