Unique Temple with 72 Deities

In the heart of Patna lies a unique temple where not just one or two, but 72 deities are worshipped in the sanctum sanctorum. Along with this, there are also 262 idols of Lord Shaligram present. We are talking about the Bhikham Das Thakurbari in Bakarganj, Patna. It is the only temple in Patna where such a large number of deity idols are worshipped daily in the sanctum sanctorum. Everything in this Thakurbari is historic and hundreds of years old. According to the temple priests, the Shaligram idols here are more than 500 years old, and ancestors associated with the temple brought idols from all corners of the country and installed them in the sanctum sanctorum.

Darshan of Lord Jagannath

The temple priests mention that in this divine court, idols of Hanuman, Shiva, Narasimha, Vishnu, Radha-Krishna, Ram-Sita, Lord Jagannath, Shaligram, Vithal, and Laddu Gopal along with many other deities are installed. There are 72 idols in the sanctum sanctorum and 262 idols of Lord Shaligram. Hanuman ji is present as the guardian of all, in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Additionally, this Thakurbari houses a collection of centuries-old conch shells. Everything in this Thakurbari is ancient and historic.

Miraculous Thakurbari

The temple priests mention that the ancestors of this Thakurbari were highly enlightened souls who had direct contact with the divine. When any mishap occurred during a ritual, the sadhus would advise to go to the Ganga river and bring back a solution. The water from the Ganga river would turn into ghee when brought back in a vessel. Stories like these are often told about the miraculous events associated with this Thakurbari.
