Bihar Government modifies order to close schools, discussions held between Chief Secretary and KK Pathak
In Bihar, the scorching heat has broken records, with temperatures crossing 45 degrees in several districts. On Wednesday, Aurangabad recorded over 48 degrees, setting a new temperature record above 47. Due to the intense heatwave, the government schools in Bihar have been ordered to remain closed from May 30 to June 8. This decision was made following discussions between Chief Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra and KK Pathak, but now it has been revealed that only children will be exempt from attending school.
Anger among teachers due to KK Pathak’s orders
It has been reported that after discussions with KK Pathak, orders were issued to all district magistrates in Bihar. Under these orders, teachers are required to attend school as usual, and officials will inspect schools daily. Teachers are expressing frustration over not being given leave, questioning the need for their presence in school if students are not attending. The teachers’ union has demanded relief for teachers affected by the heatwave, emphasizing the need for assistance.
Changes in school timings up to class 8, discussions held between Chief Secretary and Governor
Prior to this, KK Pathak had altered the school timings for classes 1 to 8 in the Education Department. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar instructed Chief Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra to ensure appropriate measures are taken to address the crisis caused by the severe heatwave. The Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, also spoke with the Chief Secretary following reports of schoolchildren falling ill due to the extreme heat.
