Extension of Judicial Custody

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s judicial custody in the alleged land scam has been extended by two weeks by the PMMLA Court. Eight people, including the ex-CM of the state, are involved in the 8.46-acre land scam in Badgai Anchal.

Court Proceedings via Video Conferencing

Hemant Soren, currently in jail, appeared before the court via video conferencing on Thursday. Following the appearance, the court extended the judicial custody of Hemant Soren and seven others for 2 more weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for June 13th via video conferencing.

High Court Seeks Response from ED

The Jharkhand High Court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to the bail plea of former CM Hemant Soren regarding the money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. Soren’s arrest on January 31st led to the filing of the bail plea on Monday.

Allegations and Legal Proceedings

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Hemant Soren, argued in front of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay that Soren is a victim of a political conspiracy by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The court directed the ED to submit a response and set the next hearing for June 10th. Soren is accused of involvement in tampering with land documents in Bargain, Ranchi.
